Do you want to grow some healthy produce? Food Up Front has seeds for you!

Food Up Front isa partnership with Homestead T.O. Their full page on the project is here.

Food Up Front was launched at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since then, we’ve helped over 1,000 Toronto households turn lawns into edible landscapes.

Food Up Front provides seeds and education to help new gardeners grow successfully. The project also educates novice and experienced gardeners on seed saving. Saving seeds is an essential resilience and sustainability skill, so please be in touch if you’re interested in expanding your gardening or seed saving skills.

If you have a front yard with a tree in it, please be careful not to damage or smother the tree’s roots while creating any new garden beds!

Growing local food is one piece of the puzzle in solving our climate crisis. It builds community resilience by fostering a culture of sharing while reducing dependency on international agribusiness, it reduces the need for fossil fuel intensive farming practices while eliminating food mile emissions, and it helps sequester carbon through hands-on soil stewardship.
